Dancentric Film Festival programs a selection of compelling independent dance-centric films of various lengths from around the world. DFF serves as a platform for dance films that showcase dance exclusively for, and with, the camera in mind. DFF focuses on the interplay between dance and the techniques of filmmaking, exploring the possibilities and boundaries of the art form.

We are interested in elevated content where storytelling, choreography, movement quality, and filmmaking converge seamlessly to create art.  We pay attention to the technique of both the dancers and the camera angles chosen to capture their artistry. Intention is everything and we value content that is grounded by its very foundation, story.

The Dancentric Film Festival is an international dance film festival, an arts education organization and a catalyst for movers and filmmakers to connect, collaborate and create.

We host an annual international film festival – submissions are open from February to June – and in July we screen the chosen films in Orlando, Florida. During this weekend, we also offer dance and film workshop programming from local and international dance and film artists. Our awards showcase features the winning films, as well as live performances by dance artists.

Final film selections will be judged by our elite festival director committee made up of leading filmmakers and entertainment executives. Final selections will be featured globally on Dancentric tv.

Dancentric Film Festival “DFF” proudly accepts entries on FilmFreeway, the world’s #1 way to enter film festivals and creative contests.

FAQ’s

There are over 30 awards offered in various categories with cash prizes given to the Dancentric Grand Jury Award and the Audience Award. All submissions will be eligible to win sponsorships as well as receive industry exposure by top agents, directors, and choreographers.
All films submitted will be reviewed by the festival programmers and official selections will be announced on June 15, 2021. Films 70 minutes or under, including credits, qualify as Shorts. Films over 71 minutes qualify as Features. Dancentric is a family-friendly festival, so we will be unable to accept films or refund filmmakers if your film relies on nudity, explicit language, violence, or discriminatory themes. Dancentric draws audiences of all ages, so we may request that you slightly alter your submission in order to have your work screened. As an example, we have asked filmmakers to edit out explicit words from the music. Requested changes will be minor, and while filmmakers are welcome to refuse, Dancentric’s venue has a strict policy that prohibits Dancentric from showing films with nudity or offensive language. Dancentric reserves the right to distribute submitted material, we are not just a film festival, we can also offer an extended-release where your works can live on our digital platform. Upon submitting your film to Dancentric, you agree to allow our directors to utilize your work to promote our event, screenings, workshops, be broadcast on Dancentric tv, and agree to the Standard Terms and Conditions of our Filmmaker Rights Agreement. You, as the Filmmaker will retain the underlying rights to your work.
Story-based films, which can be in the form of narrative (fiction), music video, documentary (non-fiction), or animation. All films must include English subtitles (unless the spoken language is English).
You agree to allow Dancentric to use your film or parts of your film (including trailer/teaser/film poster/screenshots) for promotional purposes and broadcast on Dancentric tv or as part of a branded programming block. We upload some of the winners’ trailers in order to promote the films. You must own all the rights to the video. Fees are not refundable!

2. Extremist or propaganda content from religious or political organizations
3. Films that were made before 2018

As outlined below in our Rules and Terms, we look for narrative elements in a dance film. Our Programming Team is looking for a clear narrative or theme, filmic quality, and dance quality. Every film is screened by at least three members of our Programming Team to ensure thorough review. The shorter your film is, the easier it is to program. Please consider cutting your credits to be as short as possible. If your film is selected, we may request film stills and/or production photos, along with photo credits, for use in promoting the Dancentric.tv film festival.

Yes, you may submit more than one piece. However, each piece will need to be submitted separately and an application fee is required for each piece.
Please do not apply with raw footage or unfinished work. We will need to view the film in its most final version in order to consider it for the festival.
All applicants will receive an email by the notification date. (If you do not receive an email by this time, please contact us directly.) If you are selected, you will be asked to promptly accept our invitation and send more specific information for your screening. If you do not meet our acceptance deadline, we will assume you are not interested in participating and will give your spot to another artist.
We are unable to provide artists with stipends this year. However, as a chosen artist you will receive complimentary tickets to the Dancentric Film Festival, which includes all film screenings, and all live dance performances.
No, you may submit a film to the festival even if you are unable to attend the festival. We’ll miss you, though! If you are able to attend, you will have the opportunity to engage in a moderated Director’s Chat on stage immediately following the screening.
The screening will include a program with information about the chosen pieces and artists. Audience members will vote for the top three “Audience Favorite” awards, and we will provide each artist with an official Dancentric Film Festival digital laurel (for “Audience Favorite”, “Honorable Mention”, or “Official Selection”), which we’ll encourage artists to use for promoting their film to future audiences.
