Machines of War are reassigned for a more meaningful task than destruction: Dancing the CanCan.
A group of T54 Main Battle tanks lets the hair down and gets into some serious track-shaking, cannon-spinning, and turret-twerking.
Dancing tanks – the content of the movie seems to be utterly silly and let’s be honest: It is. However, there is a serious background: With this movie (part of a university research project in the area of Human-Robot-Interaction) we wanted to fathom how much movement can change the appearance and aura of an object. We asked the question: which one is the more defining aspect – shape or movement? For this, we combined two seemingly opposite things: Tanks and Ballet. The tanks used were realistic models of Soviet Cold War T54s. The movements were choreographed with French 1850’s cabaret dances in mind. Movement triumphed.
